Five short modules
Each takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Students learn what anxiety is, why the body reacts the way it does, and what helps.
For schools · Learning What Helps
Learning What Helps is a free, private teen anxiety programme from registered psychologists. Share a code with your students and they can start straight away.
Free for schools, students and families.
Who it’s for
Learning What Helps is for intermediate and secondary schools, kura and pastoral teams who want every student to understand how anxiety works and what helps when worry shows up.
It’s made for 11 to 16 year olds as guidance only, so anyone can sign up. Students work through it on their own, at their own pace.
What students get
Each takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Students learn what anxiety is, why the body reacts the way it does, and what helps.
As they go, students build a personal plan: their go-to tools and the safe adults they can talk to.
Anything a student types in the free-writing spaces stays on their device. It is never saved or sent to us.
Students sign in with any email address using a one-time link, and pick up where they left off.
How it works
Get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about your school. It takes a couple of minutes.
Your school gets its own school code, plus posters with a QR code you can put up or share with students.
Students scan the QR code, sign in with any email address, and enter the school code to unlock the programme.
If a student is under 14, a parent or caregiver gets one email and taps approve before the account starts. Approval covers taking part only; parents can’t see what the young person does.
That is all we report back. Small groups show as “fewer than 10”, and we never share names or individual results.
Privacy and security
Some of what the programme holds is health information, so we handle it in line with the Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code 2020.
Cost
There’s no charge for schools, students or families. If your community wants more, we also run in-person workshops, parent and staff training, and one-to-one support.
When you register, we give your school its own code and a poster pack with a QR code. Students enter the code after signing in, and it unlocks the programme. The code tells us which school a student came through, but it doesn’t let anyone at the school see who used it or what they did.
Everyone enters their date of birth when they sign up. If a student is under 14, a parent or caregiver gets one email and taps approve before the account starts. The approval covers taking part only. Parents can’t see anything the young person does in the programme. To send parents something first, point them at what Learning What Helps is.
Only how many people are using the programme through your school. Small groups show as “fewer than 10”. Staff can’t see names, individual progress, plans or anything a student writes.
Students can sign in with any email address they can check, such as a school or personal account. If a student doesn’t have a code, they can ask their teacher or school counsellor. Families doing the programme outside school choose “Sign up as a family” when they join, and no code is needed.
No. It’s educational. It teaches young people how anxiety works and what helps, and makes it easier to ask for more support. It doesn’t replace counselling or clinical care, and students name the safe adults they can talk to as part of their plan.
It’s made for 11 to 16 year olds, but that age range is guidance only. Anyone can sign up.
Learning What Helps is free for schools, students and families. If your school wants to go further, we also offer paid in-person workshops, parent and staff training, and one-to-one support.
Information is stored in Sydney, each person can only see their own, and the platform has been independently tested. Read the full privacy and security details for schools.
