Most people want to do good work. The question is whether the conditions let them.
Supervisor / Coach

Overview

I'm a clinical psychologist and co-CEO at 3 Big Things. I've spent twenty years in clinical psychology and leadership across Aotearoa, including as General Manager of New Zealand's largest private employer of psychologists, where I led more than 250 professionals nationally.

That role taught me something I keep returning to: most people want to do good work, the question is whether the conditions let them. Those conditions are now my focus, working with leaders and teams in high-pressure roles, and with the practitioners who support them.

The work I enjoy most is alongside organisations willing to build those conditions, not just respond to the symptoms. That's where real change happens, and it tends to be slower and less tidy than a wellbeing programme.

Coaching and Supervision

My approach to coaching and supervision is reflective rather than directive. The purpose is a regular, protected space where someone can think clearly about their work, including the parts that are harder to bring to the office: the emotional load of holding other people's experiences, the moments that did not land, the slow accumulation of carrying difficult work over time.

Coaching and supervision is a collaboration. The person I'm working with leads what is brought; my role is to ask better questions and notice the patterns it's hard to see from inside the work. Underneath sits steady attention to safe and ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and the person's own sustainability. The aim is straightforward: supporting people to be at their best in their work, and to keep growing at it over a career. Thinking time, not a case audit.

Skills and Experience

I hold a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Flinders University and a Master of Psychology from the University of Adelaide. I've been a registered psychologist for over 15 years, hold a current annual practising certificate in the clinical scope, and am a member of the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists.

My clinical training includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support, Motivational Interviewing, and professional supervision. My practice focus is psychosocial risk in workplaces, executive coaching with senior leaders, and leadership development.
