An EAP your people will actually use.
Confidential support from registered psychologists, ready for whatever your people bring, from everyday stress to grief, trauma and serious mental health.
How much is your EAP really costing you?
When your people are checked out, burnt out or absent, it costs you money. Most EAPs offer only a handful of sessions with general counsellors, so people leave without the support they need. But most of your people do not bother asking for it in the first place. Either way, your EAP is costing you money.
EAPs typically reach 5% of people. Any lower, and it is a sign your programme has stopped working.

Qualified support creates meaningful outcomes.
Delivered by registered psychologists
Each person is matched to the right psychologist for what they are facing, and no issue is handed off because it becomes too complex.

The difference, in their words.

Service design
We tailor the service to fit your organisation, people and goals: the support on offer, who can access it, and whether it is a standalone programme or a specialist layer over your existing EAP.
Launch materials
You make sure everyone knows the support available and how to access it, with our launch materials: posters, digital assets and internal messaging.
Session bookings
Your people book a psychologist or counsellor online, by email or by phone. We can also match them to the right clinician.
Ongoing improvement
Optional quarterly reporting aggregates and anonymises session data to show how the service is performing, the themes coming through, and where to focus next.
Psychologists who understand the workplace, not just the clinic.
3 Big Things is led by Co-CEOs Sean and Chris, both registered psychologists with deep experience supporting people and organisations in high-pressure environments.
Questions about EAP and employee wellbeing.
How is this different from a traditional EAP?
Our enhanced EAP offers longer sessions with registered psychologists, matched from our stable of over 40 specialists. It means your people get the help they need.
Can you work alongside our existing EAP?
Yes, and many clients use us that way. They keep their existing EAP to handle everyday support, with our specialist layer ready for more complex issues: trauma, serious mental health, or senior leaders.
Can you be our only EAP provider?
Yes. This means everyone on your team has access to specialist care from the first call.
How quickly can our people access support?
In most cases, within a few days, with urgent situations prioritised for same-day or next-day access. You get an immediate response for critical incidents.
Are the sessions confidential? What does our organisation see?
Yes, the sessions are confidential. The exceptions are when a psychologist must disclose a clear risk to the safety of the client or someone else, or when disclosure is required by law, such as a court order. Your organisation only sees that the service is being used, and can track the EAP’s effectiveness through optional quarterly reporting.
How does Unimed billing work?
If a staff member holds a Unimed health insurance policy, we bill Unimed directly for up to four funded sessions a year, at no cost to the person.
Can you support remote and regional staff?
Yes, through video and phone sessions. Our team is also spread across New Zealand for face-to-face sessions.
How much does an EAP cost?
It depends on the level of support you need. Tell us about your organisation, and we will give you a clear picture of cost. We offer both retainer and pay-as-you-go arrangements.
Do we have a legal obligation to provide employee wellbeing support in New Zealand?
Yes. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, you have a duty to manage risks to worker health, including mental health. An EAP is one practical way to manage psychosocial risk.
What should we look for when choosing an EAP provider?
Look first at who delivers the support: registered psychologists, or generalist counsellors? That tells you whether they can hold complex issues rather than referring your people on. Ask about outcomes alongside average rates of use. A very low use rate suggests the EAP may not be the quality you are looking for. A good provider also integrates their support with your overall company wellbeing strategy, rather than offering disconnected counselling sessions.
What could an exceptional EAP do for your people and your performance?
Tell us a little about your organisation. We will be in touch to talk through what good support would look like. No obligation, and no sales pitch.
